Quilting
has been a part of my life since we moved to Dallas in 1980 and
I took a quilting class. From the first moment, I was hooked! I
enjoyed fast piecing techniques as I was a busy mom, and didn't
have a lot of time to hand piece the heirloom quilts I so admired.
Now that my kids are grown, I have more time for handwork, and have
spread my wings to include hand piecing as well as appliqué.
I have been involved in all aspects of quilting: teaching classes,
making quilts for sale, and eventually making and selling patterns.
I love it now as much as I did when I first started. Every new quilt
is a new adventure in color, technique and style. I am still enjoying
the adventure and hope you do too.
Prairie
Sky Creations was started in 1985 in response to a request by my
son to make him a dinosaur quilt. After much research, I found it
difficult to find a suitable pattern, so with my husband's help,
we designed "Prehistoric Pals". I wanted something simple
to piece, yet realistic looking, so I graphed the design and used
squares and triangles to piece our first Tyrannosaurus Rex. Our
son was thrilled, and Prairie Sky Creations was born. I found that
using squares and triangles made the patterns adaptable to different
sizes, and they were also very simple to piece. After selling the
pattern, and teaching classes locally, I had many requests for other
"boy patterns", so we did patterns with tractors, and
dump trucks. They were also done with squares and triangles, with
directions for wall hangings as well as larger quilts. From there
the transition to more traditional quilts was a logical step.
I
have tried to keep all of our patterns easy to understand and fun
to make. I welcome any suggestions you might have in response to
our patterns.
